Look, Ma, no hair!
Seriously. I didn't get hair until I was 2 so mom had to tape bows on me. I did learn to read very early, though, and started doodling / drawing "stories" when I was quite young and almost all involved a horse. Curiously, once I started writing, my stories generally ended with, "...and then she rode (or "road") her horse."
Given that, I feel it's quite appropriate my first "real" book will be about John Shear. At 98 he is a true hero, survivor, legend, and lover of horses, life, and people. I'm proud to call him my friend.
Why CaliCO Julie?
There is a Calico cat in, "Las Aventuras de Rogelio" (which, when the first episode of Rogelio's story is complete I will include a link to), but the primary reason is that I am blessed to live in California, and grew up in and also live in Colorado. In my humble opinion, it truly is the best of both - ocean and mountains, sea level to over 7500' elevation, city and country, race track and rodeo, earthquakes, heat waves, fires, mudslides, blizzards, high winds, thunder/lightning...
Why this website?
Funny thing my mom remembered I'd said when I was about 3, after I'd successfully counted the few peas I'd agreed to eat, how I didn't want to be a vegetarian when I grew up, I wanted to sell books. As I enjoy a yummy In-and-Out burger... I figure it's about time I try to sell some books (and scripts)!
I sincerely hope you'll enjoy the journey and please check back every so often.
Thank you for visiting ~ Julie
